CVD stands for Chemical Vapour Deposition, one of the two main technologies used to grow gem-quality diamonds in a laboratory. The other is High Pressure High Temperature, or HPHT. The growth method is important information, but it is not a beauty grade. A CVD-grown diamond can have excellent or weak cut, high or lower colour, and different clarity characteristics—just as another diamond can. What does CVD diamond mean?
In the CVD process, a thin diamond seed is placed inside a controlled chamber. Carbon-containing gas is introduced and energised into a plasma. Is a CVD-grown diamond a real diamond?

Its difference from a natural diamond is origin: it was grown through technology in a controlled environment rather than formed in the Earth.

What about post-growth treatment?
Some CVD-grown diamonds undergo post-growth treatment, including HPHT processing, to modify colour. Treatment does not mean the stone is a simulant, but it should be disclosed where applicable.
